Nendo for LASVIT at Salone Mobile 2012

Mansouri Living made its way to Milan’s Salone Mobile this year and was blown away by Nendo’s new collection for Lasvit. The talented Canadian born designer Oki Sato created a series of furniture and lighting pieces out of glass, exuding a liquid freeform quality to the material.  The delicate process of glassblowing is rooted in tradition and craft, something that Sato was able to transform into contemporary practice, producing a hugely successful collaboration.

The Florists at Ave and Dav

Flowers have an immediate impact on space, adding energy and life to their immediate surroundings. 

At The Perry, fresh flowers are a must, and on Avenue Road there is no shortage of Florists.  

 A short walk up the street from The Perry Presentation Gallery, are four Florists to choose from on just one block! Some shops have been around for years and have even been passed down from generations.

Ostuni in Puglia, The Heel of Italy

On a recent visit to the quaint Southern town of Ostuni in Italy, we came across serene landscapes throughout a region inhabited since the Stone Age. Amazed by the surrounding tranquillity of the countryside, we stayed in a typical Pugliese "masserie", which is a fortified large estate-farm. The overall serene essence of the place was an inspirational experience!

Seven Grams: Neighbourhood Coffee House

Seven Grams, The Perry's neighbourhood coffee house, is located on the east side of Avenue just south of Davenport. We found out this intimate café gets its name from the measure of ground coffee beans it takes to make the ultimate espresso shot.

Serving premium coffees from all around the globe, Seven Grams acquires its coffee beans from Te Aro, an artisan wholesale coffee roaster located in Toronto’s Leslieville.

The espresso and coffee are made using the La Marzocco GB5 – hand made in Florence, giving you a little taste of Italy! Every espresso drink at Seven Grams is served with two shots of espresso, whether for a strong morning bolt or after-lunch boost. As several coffees have a precise way to be brewed, Seven Grams uses the Trifecta and pour-over method in order to flawlessly create a finely distinguished cup of coffee.

We were wooed even more that most of the delicious baked foods, sandwiches and panini’s are made in-house, including gluten free and vegan options.

As an advocate of supporting local artists in Toronto, the café’s gallery walls are filled with local artwork.  Currently, Matt Durant’s is featured, check out his work online at www.mattdurant.com.

This all season café has a quaint patio for warm summer days and a fireplace on the lower level for the cozy winter. With a tranquil atmosphere and two floors there is plenty of seating to enjoy with your favourite beverage, laptop or book.

The breathtaking lobby at The Perry is complete with a calming modern fireplace and an immaculate Calcutta marble floor, all offset by a contemporary gallery-style space. The intimate outdoor serenity terrace at The Perry is a true urban oasis clad in blue and mulberry granite. The space is furnished with Paola Lenti, an internationally renowned luxury furniture brand head-quartered in Italy's furniture district Meda, Milan. residents will inhabit a clearing surrounded by a dense white pine forest that filters out the noise and busyness of the city, and at night, the trees are lit from below to create a truly magical outdoor experience.

Light, "the illuminating source" is a vital part of any room of a home. We have put together a post of a few of our favourite light fixtures, from classic pieces accessible to all that we would love to own to masterpieces in museums for viewing pleasure which we will continue to marvel at from a distance.

Tom Dixon's Etch Light is stunning with 

it's molecular-like perforations and bronze glow

The same line also comes in a Tower form

Dixon used this fixture in his interior for the restaurant 

at The Royal Academy of Arts in London

A big contrast is the fame Chihuly's Sant'Apollonia chandelier from 1996 

which is now on display at the De Young Museum in San Fransisco. 

The glowing blue tones and form are a marvel for the eye.

Even up close the details are remarkable

This organic fabric lamp by Aqua Creations, the Blondie Zee from 2009 

appears as though it's folding over in a crawl across a table's edge.

It can also be attached and mounted to the wall.

A true classic: Flos' Sky Garden, is an all time favourite.

The details on the inside are crafted artfully, contrasting elegantly 

with the strong form and finish of the outside shell. 

Stockholm Public Chairs - Simple Innovation

Having been inspired by the furniture in the parks of Paris where chairs can be moved at free will, Stockholm based designer Thomas Bernstrand created the Stockholm public chairs. Designed similarly to shopping carts, the idea was to encourage people to organize the chairs together as they left the park. The design allows for flexibility of the use of the park space - brightening any lush green surrounding.

BYOB, Toronto's Bar Accessories Boutique

Walking into this quaint store on Toronto's Queen West brings back a roaring twenties-like era, filled with objects of artfully crafted bar accessories. From vintage decanters and shakers to sets of carved crystal champagne flutes and scotch glasses, BYOB promises to compliment any home bar and aperitif with their one of a kind pieces. Amongst our fav is the animal-head bottle stoppers!
